Fellowship Program

Group of teachers

Purpose

The Teach Asian American Stories Fellowship trains public school educators to become facilitators who can provide professional development in teaching about Asian American and Pacific Islander history and contributions to fellow educators. The program will equip Fellows with both subject-matter knowledge on Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) history and the skills to share that knowledge with others. Working in a small cohort over a period of 10-12 months, Fellows will attend several workshops with Dr. Khyati Joshi at Fairleigh Dickinson University and will be provided with opportunities for coaching and mentorship. Fellows will co-facilitate a workshop with Dr. Joshi and then facilitate TAAS workshops on their own, either at FDU or off-site in participating school districts. Fellows will be provided with books and other resources.

Supported by Prof. Joshi, a scholar of race, religion, and immigration and cofounder of the Institute for Teaching Diversity and Social Justice, the TAAS Fellowship will foster a commitment to weaving together and integrating AAPI studies and to connecting with New Jersey’s rich Amistad, Holocaust, LGBTQ, disability, and other curricular mandates.
