Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in United States History

New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) for Social Studies

The Hidden Voices project was initiated by the New York City Department of Education to highlight underrepresented people often hidden from our histories, but who have made significant social, political, cultural, and economic contributions in the United States. Hidden Voices: Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in United States History features 38 profiles on Asian and Pacific Islander figures in U.S. history, written by leading historians and experts.

In the New Jersey Companion Guide, each chapter of Hidden Voices: Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in United States History is connected to New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) for Social Studies. New Jersey schools and educators can use this Guide to reference the K-12 learning standards demonstrated by each of the profiles in this Hidden Voices volume. To use this tool, click on the profile titles listed beneath the Table of Contents to be directed to the corresponding page with listed NJSLS for Social Studies. For more information on NJSLS, please visit https://www.nj.gov/education/standards/.

This New Jersey Companion Guide was created by Teach Asian American Stories, an initiative fueled by AAPI New Jersey to support the implementation of New Jersey’s historic AAPI curriculum mandate.
