This two-day lesson plan covers a 400-year period of history of the imperialism of Guåhan (Guam) by Spain, the United States and Japan, and the impact this imperialism has had on Guåhan and CHamoru peoples. Students will analyze the works of modern CHamoru creators and connect these to Guåhan’s history and current movements for CHamoru self-determination. Finally, students will draw inspiration from these works and create their own creative pieces that preserves their own cultural reflections, memories and/or practices.
